The Aurora Borealis is frequently spotted in the skies above Iceland during the winter months and this Northern Lights activity week gives you an opportunity to witness the fascinating phenomenon for yourself. Staying in handpicked accommodation in Reykjavík, the country’s vibrant capital, you can watch the skies every night for the Aurora, while the days are spent enjoying the great outdoors.

From horse riding and glacier walking, to snorkelling and ATV safaris, immerse yourself fully in the volcanic and glacial landscapes of Iceland. Being active in the fresh air will give you a sense of wellbeing and your experiences will be ones that you will always remember. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you will travel from place to place by coach for the duration of your Northern Lights activity week.

Throughout the trip you will see some of Iceland’s most famous sights including the Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir Hot Springs, the striking Blue Mountains and the incredible Silfra Fissure, which constitutes the boundary between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates. You will also have some time to spend at leisure so that you can explore Reykjavík independently. If you have a passion for the outdoors, this holiday is most definitely for you.

Please note: minimum activity participation age is 14. Children 14 and over can only participate in the ATV activity as a passenger.

  • Day 1 - Fly to Iceland

    Fly into Reykjavík and check into your city centre accommodation.

  • Day 2 - Icelandic Horses and ATV Safari

    An action-packed winter escape to Iceland - Icelandic Horses and ATV Safari

    Your tour guide will meet you after breakfast. The first place you will visit on your Northern Lights activity week is Íshestar Farm, where there is a horse riding excursion planned for a fun way to explore the volcanic landscape. In the afternoon, get the adrenaline pumping on an ATV safari across the lava plateaus.

    Please note a full driving licence is required to drive an ATV.

  • Day 3 - Snorkelling

    Snorkelling

    Today on the Northern Lights activity week we travel to the Silfa Fissure, which is the boundary between two tectonic plates. It is filled with crystal clear water and is one of the best dive sites in the world. With a wetsuit and snorkel, you can witness the remarkable rock formations beneath the water’s surface. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

  • Day 4 - Golden Circle Tour

    Golden Circle Tour

    Iceland’s Golden Circle is made up of three popular tourist locations; Geysir Hot Springs, Thingvellir National Park and Gullfoss Waterfall. Spend the day visiting all three of these impressive natural features before winding up at the Leiðarendi lava cave, which is home to astonishing volcanic geology.

  • Day 5 - Glacier Hiking

    The surface of a glacier is an incredible place to explore, with its deep crevasses, rivulets and moulins. Your guide will lead you safely across the Sólheimjökull Glacier’s surface and all the equipment you require will be provided, including a pair of crampons and an ice axe. Afterwards, the Northern Lights activity week continues to Skógafoss Waterfall, where you can admire its sheer beauty.

  • Day 6 - Blue Lagoon

    Blue Lagoon

    You have the opportunity to do some independent sightseeing in Reykjavík this morning. In the afternoon, visit the Blue Lagoon and enjoy a relaxing soak in its warm, mineral-rich waters. There are beauty and massage treatments available to book on site and there is fine dining to be had at the Lava Restaurant.

  • Day 7 - At Leisure

    Spend the final full day of your Northern Lights activity week enjoying the sights and sounds of the capital. You might like to visit some of the museums, such as the National Museum of Iceland and the National Gallery, or explore the colourful old town. Weather permitting, you may be able to book a whale watching trip.

  • Day 8 - Departure

    Departure

    Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before returning to the airport to catch your flight home.
